Anti-Branding Manifesto
What is a brand?
A brand should be a small internal tag the size of a thumbnail just above the washing instructions. Not sprawled on clothing in every availible blank space.
Brands have taken over clothing. T-Shirts used to be creative expressions people could wear and show off their own designs or something that represents them. In the 21st century this had been knocked down so much to the point where all you are wearing is a word. People many years ago would not understand this change in our society. For example in back to the future Micheal J Fox’s character, Marty Mc Fly, has to clear up the confusion about his name:
Marty Mc Fly: Calvin? Why do you keep calling me calvin?
Lorraine Banes: Well, that is your name, isn’t it? Calvin Klein? It’s written all over your underwear.
My Manifesto:
1. We refuse to conform to the herd mentality.
- We are not sheep. We will do what we like and not because someone else is doing it.
- We will not advertise something that is not us.
- We will protect and promote our individuality and never give it up.
2. We will not accept fake items just for the image.
- Named brands offer items at very expensive prices.
- There are so many fake products that they have become their own brand
- Unsurprisingly, fakes can sometimes be better quality than the origionals – Low quality, cheaper goods = Higher sales + More profits.
3. We will be different and let our creativity define who we are.
- Individuality has been burried under the masses.
- We want to stand out from the crowd and shout “Look at me, I am different!”.
4. We refuse to advertise companies for free.
- We will not be used as walking advertisements.
- In the news a few years ago a man had sold his bald forehead as avertising space on Ebay. That’s how it should work in the case of branding on clothing.
May we walk moung the faceless conformists as creative individuals, proud to be different.

Well I try my best I guess, it’s just my little corner of the internet, tucked away in the dark, I didn’t know people really read it. I’m glad you decided to come and have a look around and felt it was good enough to leave a comment so I thank you for that.
Hmm, I am not sure, I work in Firefox, haven’t really tried out IE. This website was built usuing a firefox browser and for that reason it works better on it. Maybe you should try Firefox instead?

Great, thanks for letting me know where you were to get here. I don’t have much idea where my site is displayed around the interet. I guess all the major search websites have some information from this site as it’s been running for almost 2 years now I think.

You’re welcome. This was part of a university project that I actualy felt quite strongly about so I posted it. Usualy I would put it up on my portfolio but there was something about this… I ended up making a T Shirt with this manifesto drawn on it by hand which lead me to develop a printed on you can find in my shop.
I’ll get round to writing more interesting topics soon when I get some time. If you liked this post keep a look out, I’ll put up a page just on this topic soon with more links and how you can become part of the movement against branding.

I’m not sure about getting 4 emails. I’ll sign up to it through another email of mine and check it. If I get the same I’ll figure something out and if that fails I’ll find out how to remove you.

Well you are if you follow your friends, do what they do, do what they want you to do and generaly do everything except what you want to do. Yes, well I do like the films and I thought that was a great reference. I presented this to my uni class and got a few laughs which helped me get a good score for my presenting skills.

Thanks, I write everything myself. I just think for a while and everything I want to say just appears. I let it out in all different directions which is something I need to work on, I definitely have to learn to structure my posts better but that will come in time with practice.

lol one or two of the reviews people distribute are such stoner remarks, every so often i think about whether they in reality read the pieces and items before writing or whether or not they simply just read the title of the article and generate the initial thought that drifts into their minds. in either case, it’s pleasurable to browse through intelligent commentary from time to time instead of the very same, classic blog vomit that i mainly observe on the net
